January 18 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:13,14. We have received, and we continue to receive, the precious word of God. We are to retain it and allow it to nourish us. It becomes our standard for living. Actually, Jesus is our word, the living word. Faith in Jesus, and love for Him will motivate us to retain this word. We have a treasure in our earthen vessel—the Holy Spirit. He shows through the vessel at times when we least expect. He changes us continually to conform to the image of Christ. How can we abuse this precious gift by failing to listen and obey? I want to learn how to listen more fully—I need clear instruction from Him. The pressures of the world often keep me from hearing Him. I need to enter more into His rest. We need to guard our hearts—where the treasure resides. Constantly we are approached by forces that would harm us or change our motives for living. The treasure is precious, beyond description. Our heavenly Father has blessed us beyond measure. Thank You Father for the gift of the Holy Spirit who continually shows us more of Jesus. Show me today how to guard my heart where He resides. Amen.
