February 2

Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.  Do not add to His words lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar.  Proverbs 30:5,6

Man has a great tendency to improve upon the word of God.  We are surrounded by many translations of the Bible, and arguments abound about which translation is the best.  Yet every word of God has been tested by God Himself and found perfect.  So it must be that we are to seek the heart and mind of God when we read His word.  Our interpretations must be laid at His feet so that every remnant of human interference is removed.  Yes, we are to take refuge in Him and His word.

I am bothered by methods we use in church to find the desires of God.  Committee meetings can be disastrous if we do not spend time in prayer seeking His will.  Opinions offered and voted upon are not necessarily in tune with His intentions.  God is asking that we must have prayerful, spirit-filled leaders make our decisions.  Every time we offer suggestions on how to improve our worship, our outreach to others, and the understanding of God’s word we are in danger of being reproved—even to be proved liars.  Our church is not designed as a democracy.  It is to be found obedient only to the word of God.

Dear Father, instill in us today the desire to trust in You and Your word.  We want Your will and only Your will to be made clear to us.  The ways of man will only attempt to corrupt Your word, and in the end we will be proved to be liars.  I want none of that—let me be at Your feet with listening ears and obedience to You in my choices.  Amen.
