Feb. 27.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1.

All of us need total acceptance. Yet, we sometimes wonder if God has really accepted us. Is there something I need to do in order to earn or improve my acceptance? Is He displeased with me today, and therefore is He expecting me to make up for it in some special way? The word of God declares the exact opposite concerning our acceptance. We have peace with God; obtained by faith in Jesus Christ, who died for us that we may find justification and new life in Him. We need to rest on this and find His peace. Yes, I am prone to reason from my own condition toward Him, and when I see the flaws I think I must do something to improve my status. But God does not reason that way. I must learn to reason from God’s viewpoint, and that is to focus on what He has already done, not on what I have done. Thank you, Lord, that it is this way. For otherwise it would result in our total failure. We would never come to know You by our works.

Today I count on You, Lord, to comfort my heart. I claim your word which says You will “comfort and strengthen your heart in every good work and word”. (2 Thessalonians 2: 17). How could it be otherwise when You love us so much? Your word establishes my acceptance before You, and I will walk in peace with you today and everyday. I will not focus on my shortcomings, but I will focus on Your perfection that was sacrificed for me. Everything that I have is a result of Your works, not mine. Thank you, Lord, for Your peace. Amen.
