Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is
above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who
are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians
2: 9-11.
In Isaiah 45:23 God has said that every knee shall bow to Him, but in this verse
in Philippians the knee is bowing to Jesus. Wouldn’t you know that the Father
would bestow this upon His beloved Son!
In a Sunday school class of teenagers, who were beginning to understand the true
meaning of Christ in the scriptures, the teacher asked a question and almost
before the question was uttered a student said “Jesus”. When asked why he had
said that answer the teenager said, “It seems that the answer to all of your
questions is “Jesus”. It would be easy to think that the student was being a
little trite, but in a deeper sense he had begun to catch on. In a process of
growing in Christ we gradually learn to realize greater and greater concepts of
just who Jesus is. It may start with a simple explanation—that he was a “good
guy”, for example. But over time we begin to realize that He was the true Son of
God as well as a Son of man. In the letter to the Colossians He is the creator
of everything, and He still holds everything together. He is our peace, our
sanctification, our justification and our wisdom.
As we mature and grow into His image we will allow Him to take first place in
all things.
Our knees will bow to Him and our tongues and minds will yield to Him.
Today, Lord Jesus, let Your Holy Spirit show me how Jesus is to take first place
in all aspects of my life. He is my life. By faith let me follow only Him. Amen.
