Feb 20

Then the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Son of man, you live in the midst of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see but do not see, ears to hear but do not hear; for they are a rebellious house. Ezekiel 12: 1-2.

A pastor may have a church that is hungry and growing. They are feasting on the word of God and being nourished. But if that same pastor were preaching that same word in a non-hungry church he may find that the church could falter and even die. There are many that do not want spiritual leadership—the pastor may lead but they will not follow. He can not feed those who will not eat.

Sometimes we find ourselves being used in the honor and glory of God. The church is growing in maturity in Christ. At another time we may not be able to see any growth from the taught word, not because of failure, but because of the lack of hunger in the flock. God is always showing us His feast and that table of celebration with Him. He will not hand-feed us just to allow us to get a small taste of His life. But when we are hungry and choose to feast with Him, all of His grace fills us to the brim. Our eyes and ears truly become open to Him.

It seems that hunger for Him arises from our realization that we can not control our own lives or destiny. Only His feast satisfies my hunger.

Today, Lord, I want to be hungry for Your word. You have set a table for me, and Your food is ready to be enjoyed. By faith I will feast at the table set before me and dine with my Lord. Amen.
