I do not know how to go out or come in.---So give thy servant an understanding
heart to judge Thy people to discern between good and evil. 1 Kings 3: 7b,9a.
Solomon, to his credit, knew his limitations. He did not try to proclaim his
credentials for self-glorification, nor did he try to rule over the people
without wisdom. God was so pleased with this that He gave Solomon wisdom and
both riches and honor as well. It should be the same with us. Our fleshly nature
in Adam always wants to be first. We seek to lead without understanding. We
enjoy attention and praise from others, but often we do not really seek the
Lord’s way. Many times we have to fail in order to discover that we have tried
to elevate self rather than the Lord.
Today I want to be the servant that follows You, Lord. Unless my wisdom comes
from You, I am not fit to lead. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and I will rest in that fact. My faith in Your leadership is secure. Strip away
any tendency on my part to get in Your way. I am truly designed by You to be a
servant, as in the manner of Jesus as He walked this earth. All praise goes to
You. Amen.
