December 7

And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.  Genesis 1:27.

Man was created on the sixth day—just in time to enter into God’s rest on the seventh day.  This pattern is repeated over and over in God’s word.  We are to look for what God has already done and enter into His rest before we consider work that we are to do.  Only by seeking Him, and realizing that all of God’s work on this earth will require His power, not ours, can we faithfully experience the Christian life.

Yes, we have been created.  We are not the random result of millions of chance throws of matter into chemical soups.  Without this creation we have no basis for existence, no meaning to our life, work and play, and no opportunity for life after death.  All of life started in the mind of God, and He has spoken us into His image.

Adam must have spent that seventh day marveling over the scene of God’s creation.  He rested with God, and they must have discussed many things.  Oh if only we would spend time with God in this way, as we consider all that He has already done.

Father, I ask You today to impress upon me the need to enjoy Your rest.  There is so much for me to learn about You, and I cannot do that if I allow my man-made priorities to schedule my life.  Show me Your ways, Your grace, and I will be equipped to serve You in future endeavors.  Thank You and Amen.
