December 30

But you will chase your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword; five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.  So I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will confirm My covenant with you.  Leviticus 26:7-9.

The Lord is making this promise to the Israelites.  It is an amazing picture of how the Lord will defeat all of their enemies as they march into the Promised Land.  Do they believe Him and act upon their belief?  No!

Before we criticize, do we do the same thing?  Oh I don’t see us literally chasing our enemies on a battlefield, although that could be a possibility, but we have been promised the presence of the Lord in every daily circumstance.  With Him we are invincible.  So we need to act like it.

The Israelites were marked by grumbling over their leaders and over what they regarded as the difficulties of the desert upon which they walked.  Their major problem was that they were not learning to know God and His ways.  I am afraid that we often do the same.

His ways are not ways—and we should be so thankful that they are not.  We can always trust Him in every situation.  We are not to think that we are wise in our own estimation, for that is the way of pride that will lead to destruction.

Father, we worship You for who You are as well as for Your ways.  They are inseparable.  Spare us from any attempt to believe that we can exist without You.  We marvel over the thought that You chose not to live alone, but we share the life of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  We inherit all that is in You.  Thank You and Amen.
