December 3

I will meditate on Thy precepts, and regard Thy ways.  I shall delight in Thy statutes; I shall not forget Thy word.  Psalm 119:15,16.

The word of God reveals itself to us in many ways.  It is not just a matter of reading the Scriptures; it is a matter of absorbing them into our lives.  Yes, we are to meditate upon and ponder the word of God.  In so doing we discover more of the attributes of God and how He chooses to reveal Himself to us.  We think through His methods of dealing with us, and all too often we discover that His ways are not the same as our ways.

If at first we find that something in His law for us appears to be too difficult, it is not long before we take delight in His law.  For we are continually discovering that His ways are so perfect and so beyond our natural choice that only good can come from our submission to Him. Through this whole process we inevitably become more like Him.  That is His goal for us—to become His image.

I marvel over the power of God’s word.  It is a living and active sword that pierces our very being.  We learn that our soul—that part of us that reflects our personality, mindset, and heart attitude—becomes more under the control of the Spirit.  And the good news is that His Spirit works with our renewed spirit.  For it was when we accepted Jesus into our life that our spirit became quickened to receive the Holy Spirit.  Now our soul can be saved by becoming obedient to the Spirit.

Heavenly Father, You have performed a miracle in our lives.  You knew You could do it even before the foundation of the world.  We are in total awe of You, and we thank You for the living Word that came to us in the life of Jesus.  Amen.
