December 25
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be
among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in
Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.” Micah
5:2.
The Son of God, Jesus, has come to us from the days of
eternity. Lowly Bethlehem harbored a child in a manger. He is our Savior. The
world sometimes offers no note of this, yet it is from our lowly, little things
that God can show His mighty power.
Jesus was borne in the shadow of the palace of Herod the
Great. Who is great now, we ask? Certainly it is Jesus. A manger would not be
chosen to honor even an earthly king, for it had the smells and the appearance
of a place that was unfit. But it was the ideal sanctuary for our eternal
King. Wise men, as well as shepherds, were in tune with this event, but common
men were not aware. The Father, the Holy Spirit, watched under the light of a
star, while the world slept.
Dear friends, let us celebrate the wonders of our Lord,
Jesus. He came in love to forgive us for our sins. His task is done, and we
are here today to carry on the message of forgiveness and love. We share in His
life, and yet He can still use the simple, commonplace things that we offer. We
need not think that wealth, position, or earthly skills will accomplish His
goals. He always seeks the humble and the lowly for His use. Thank You,
Heavenly Father, for making all of this true. Amen.
