December 17
Jesus therefore said to them “For a little while longer the light is among
you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; he who
walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light,
believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light.” John
12:35,36.
Jesus had just told some of the disciples of His coming death. As usual they did
not understand. They were not believing Him. My concern is that we often do the
same—we are not believing Him.
The world system beckons us with a false, synthetic light. It can appear to be
glorious, but it is a trap. It is empty and void of life. Yet Jesus, who is the
true light of the world, continually calls us to be sons and daughters of that
light. Without Him we really do not know where we are going.
We should be so thankful for this light. Jesus shows us what is right or wrong
about our every decision. He shows us how to love—especially how to love the
unlovely. It will require sacrifice on our part as we give up our time, talent,
and resources, but remember, they are all His anyway. We are sons of the
light—which is our only task.
Today, Lord Jesus, I claim Your light to illuminate my path. You will reveal
opportunities that I would never see. You will show me the sacrificial way to
serve others. Without You and Your light, I am nothing. Thank You and Amen.
