August 6
Finally, brethren, whatever
is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is
lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything
worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8
This is an oft-quoted verse. We heartily agree with the
admonition to dwell on these things. Yet, we cry out "I can’t do this
consistently". Is this just positive thinking? And the Lord Jesus reminds us
that all of these attributes are fulfilled in Him. He, Himself, is our truth,
or honor, our righteousness, or love, our good report. The mind of Christ,
which He has given us, will always dwell on these things. We have been given a
new nature, a new creation, in Christ. The world will change for the better if
we would just allow the nature of Christ to show forth. It is by faith that we
can do this—not by training of the flesh. The world will wonder where these
characteristics originate. We can tell them of Jesus.
As I walk with You today let me have the faith to know
that Your life will show forth from me. You are the source of my life, and I do
not want to try to change it or improve upon it. It is finished in You. Yes,
Lord, we will walk together and dwell on these things. Amen.
