August 31
And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the
commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in
it. For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not
acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the
antichrist. 2 John 6,7.
Here we have all the commandments summarized into one—walk in love, the
unconditional, agape love that is given by God. That walk will of course include
love for God as well as for our neighbor. It is made possible as we accept Jesus
as Savior, the one who came in the flesh to die for our sins and to give us new
life in Him. This is a law of faith, not one of forced obedience. We find
ourselves, out of love for Jesus, as wanting to walk in obedience to Him. It is
always a “want to” rather than a “have to” relationship.
In today’s world we are surrounded by deceivers and all those who proclaim that
God never came in the flesh to this world, and that if He did He would never
return again. Yet, this is the foundation of the Gospel, without His coming
there would be no salvation, no accountability to God, or any meaning to life.
Today, Lord Jesus, let we walk in Your love. I know that love fulfills all that
You would ever desire from me. I can only do this because You have shared Your
life with me. Your Holy Spirit, the great comforter, continually nourishes me
and reveals Your truth. I claim all of this in Your precious name. Amen.
