August 25
“Arise, for the Lord has given the camp of Midian into your hands.” And he
divided the 300 men into three companies, and he put trumpets and empty pitchers
into the hands of all of them, with torches inside the pitchers. Judges
7:15b,16.
We can not imagine any military leader equipping his army with trumpets and
pitchers. The Lord’s ways are clearly not our ways! Yet, Gideon had total faith
in God. In his mind the camp of the enemy was already in his hands. Although
outnumbered by an army as numerous as locusts, Gideon showed a total confidence
in the outcome.
We are to do the same. The world will constantly tell us that either God does
not exist, or that He is ill equipped to deal with our lives. But in reality it
is the opposite. God has a power far beyond what we can imagine—we must not let
our limited view of Him dictate our attitude or convictions about serving Him.
The world may ridicule us, it may even laugh at us, but God will prevail.
Dear Father, let me continue to marvel at Your grace and power. Simple things in
my hands can translate into overwhelming power in Your hands. I ask that I never
forget this. Let me not regard myself as having anything but weakness in Your
sight. When my weakness is yielded to You it will magnify and bring glory to
Your name. I ask that this day, and each day, that I learn this lesson. In the
name of Jesus, Amen.
