August 13

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! Matthew 7:11.

We would know nothing of doing good were it not for God. He alone is good. But we have this gift of the Holy Spirit. If we have tasted of Him, we will find ourselves involved with people. We will be sent upon the path of reaching out to them in good deeds.

Lord, keep showing me what is good. By myself I might read into each situation a chance to glorify self, and that would only be destructive to Your purposes. I want only the profitable way—the way that involves all that You are and all that You intend to show to my fellow man. Each day I can see Your character and design in the trees, in the clouds, in the beauty of the meadows. Is it not reasonable that You can also use me to show the beauty of Your life to others? That is certainly not too much to ask, as long as it is for Your glory.

Search me, Lord, so that I can be a useful tool for Your glory. I will not understand every situation in which You place me, but I can be available to listen, to learn, and to obey. You will have to define what is good—my vision for this is not enough. But I pray for the confidence that You are continually present to reveal more of Jesus in everything that I do. Thank You, and Amen.
