August 11

And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.  Colossians 2:13,14.

Often we forget that we are in Christ.  The world does not see us that way, for it is not capable of that vision.  But we, having been given the Holy Spirit, can and should see that new life pulsing within us.  We are to act like we have been recreated—like forgiven men and women with a new future.  There is no room for resurrecting the past, as I am prone to do.  The old life is forever behind me, and I need to claim the work of the cross that removed my hostility toward God.

We are to be spiritually discerned to the point that we can avoid deadness in our fellowship, deadness in our church services, and the cruel characterizations of our fellow Christians.  We want to be free from these old ways, and we will trust Christ to reveal that we are made anew and on a path of faith, through Grace.

Thank You, Father, for taking away our past life in Adam.  We claim a new relationship with You—an intimate, personal one that allows us to see deeply into Your heart.  Make me like Your Son—I long to be more like Him in every way.  Thank You for all You have done at the cross, and for the resurrected life that has been given to us.  Amen.
