August 10

And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulation, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:3-5.

Our first thoughts in the midst of tribulation are usually on self. We wonder how we will proceed through the problem; we search for solutions within the limited confines of our mind and experience. Yet, we must realize that God is at work—searching us for the faith that will allow us to believe that something good is going to happen. Our tribulation can be used to shape and mold us more into the image of Christ. We are to persevere so that our character may be proved. Then there will be visions of hope that will never disappoint. Finally we become more aware of the awesome love of God poured into our hearts. Our vision becomes 20/20 as we look back upon what has happened. God was with us all along, and we are becoming more like Him through the process.

Today, Lord, I will not try to analyze all that is happening to me. Let me not be concerned about why “bad things happen to good people.” I am not the final judge of what is bad or good. I am but clay in Your hands, so I count on You to see the end result for which You are striving. Teach me to be faithful and persistent in my praise for You. My character needs to be molded within Your loving hands so that I may be more like Your Son, Jesus. Your love will encourage me to listen to the Holy Spirit as He continually beckons me to trust and obey. Thank You for Your grace and love. Amen.
