August 1
Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him; but the
righteous will live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:4.
It was truth like this that changed the life of Martin Luther. (See Romans 1:5).
We all need to claim this approach to the Savior, Jesus—it is by faith in Him
that we live. There is so much pride in this world, yet we know that pride in
self is the greatest sin. So often we think our way is the best. We push the
Holy Spirit aside in order to find our own, selfish way.
Thank You Lord that my righteousness is a total failure. Only Your righteousness
produces the goals of the Christian life. And Your righteousness is available by
faith to all that would believe. I can not claim that my works will stand the
test, no matter how hard I try. Let me see the works that You have already
accomplished so that I may claim them for my life. I can only do that by faith.
Today I ask You, Father, to reveal Your glory and honor as we walk together. No
one wants to see my self-righteousness. Let people know that You are above all
the vain and corrupt actions of this world. Yet, You loved the people of this
world beyond measure as You gave Your only Son, Jesus. Let me give as well in a
manner that will bring more glory to You. Amen.
