April 7
“And he got up and come to his father. But while he was still a long way off,
his father saw him, and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him, and
kissed him.” Luke 15:20.
I love this image of the father running to greet his wayward son. Deep down I
know that I am also a son who has gone into distant worlds and spent myself on
foolish ventures. Yet, the loving father in this parable has been looking all
the while, waiting patiently for the son he loves. Can anyone expect a father
such as this?
Oh heavenly Father, You are the one who waits for us. You want only to extend
your love and grace toward us. There is no condemnation when we return from our
wayward paths. Instead, You actually run to meet us. Your kiss and Your embrace
are so sweet. I have not merited any of this—show me how I may serve You and
honor You. Thank You, Father, that You gave Your Son to die for my sins. How can
I repay You? I know that no way can be found.
Thank You, Jesus, for accepting me into Your body. Today let me not stray onto
strange paths. Let me walk close to You in all that I do. Amen.
