April 6

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.  2 Corinthians 7:10.

Jesus experienced sorrow as He walked among us.  He knew the terrible trials and sufferings that mankind experiences.  His greatest sorrow must have been over the hardness of men’s hearts and their refusal to accept Him.

From our perspective we experience sorrow that leads to repentance when we are suffering in our sinful status and begin to see the love and grace that awaits us in Christ.  We long for a better life, and the repentance that follows opens up God’s doorway to Jesus and His life that He wishes to give us.  Yes, that kind of repentance is what God seeks.

But sorrow produced by the world, with all of its empty promises and darkened pathways, can only produce regret and ultimate death.  I am so pleased and happy that those days are over for me, and I can only pray that they are over for you my friends as well.  The salvation that we experience in Jesus is the fulfillment of all of God’s promises.

Father, in reverence to Your mighty name, let me repent over and over for my sin.  You have paid the price for sin by the sacrifice of Your Son.  I can only acknowledge the work of Jesus at the cross, and I know that He has set me on a new path of life that is endless.  Thank You for all of this—in Jesus name.  Amen.
