April 18
The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will
give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field. Then David
said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin,
but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of
Israel, whom you have taunted. 1Samuel 17:44,45.
This remarkable incident shows us that we are specially
equipped by God to deal with the forces of the world. A young man, David, knew
from experience that he could trust God. David was fully equipped with a sling
and five small stones, although only one stone would be necessary. In contrast
Goliath had a huge size advantage, depth of experience in warfare, a sword, a
spear, and a javelin. But Goliath did not have the Lord!
We cannot underestimate the favor of the Lord. He can
guide us into battle and give us the victory. All praise goes to Him. A small
boy has power and wisdom to slay giants when he has the Lord in his heart.
Jesus has reminded us that we need not worry about what to
say or do when we are ministering to the world. We need only to trust and
obey. Our faith, placed in Jesus, will see us through with absolute assurance,
no matter the odds against us.
I have need of this faith as I encounter those in the world
system who would try to sway me with their false conceptions of truth, their
cravings for wealth, and their business dealings that sometimes hide ‘fine
print’ of deception. The spirits need to be tested, and we know that the spirit
that acknowledges that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, is the spirit that
assures us that we have chosen the right path.
Today, as always, we give praise to You, Father. It is
Your Spirit that equips for these encounters with the world. Thank You for
going with us. Amen.
