April 12

Those who trust in the Lord are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.  As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.  Psalm 125:1,2.

We often fail to realize how often and to what extent we are saved.  The Lord is watching us ever so carefully, whether we are asleep or active.  He never rests in His favor toward us.  Here in the this verse He compares us to His precious Jerusalem.  Yes, we are favored indeed when we are in Christ.

As I think back on life circumstances that could have led to serious injury or even death, I wonder how the Lord must have been involved to rescue me.  It would not be a task for men to do, for they would have the power or the insight to accomplish my rescue.  But God so arranged my falls as to be harmless.  His hand must have been there to hold me.

I pray that all of this is also true of our nation, although I often have cause to wonder.  We seem to be turning aside in our desire to take land away from Israel, in our continual killing of the unborn child, and in the attempts to cast our God from our society.  Yet I know He is watching and waiting for signs of repentance.  Lord, let that repentance come!

Heavenly Father, we glorify Your name.  Thank You for watching us so patiently, so lovingly, and in a way that rescues us continually.  We will spend eternity marveling at Your marvelous ways, and we ask that we can see more clearly how You work with us on a daily basis in this life on earth.  We long for the coming of the New Jerusalem, of which we shall be a part.  Amen.
