Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came early to the tomb, while
it was still dark, and saw the stone already taken away from the tomb. John 20:
1.
Can you envision Mary going to the tomb while it was still dark? This tells us
how she loved Jesus. He was the first priority in her life—the beginning of the
day. To her amazement the stone was rolled away. This stone was too heavy to
have been removed by the soldiers, and they would not have done so because it
would have appeared that the disciples had stolen the body.
Our first reaction is to think that the stone was removed so that Jesus could
come out. But, quite in contrast, the stone was removed so that we might go in!
Mary and the disciples could now walk inside and witness that Jesus was no
longer there. He had resurrected just as He had predicted. They were not serving
a dead god, but a living God.
We have bold access to the Father through the work of Christ.
We often fail to realize what God has done, and instead keep thinking of what we
can or should do for Him or for ourselves. This story indicates that God is at
work to glorify His Son, and that He will continually find a way to reveal His
Son to us.
Today Lord, I thank you for being who You are. Your ways are beyond mine. You
foresee what needs to be done even before I have the smallest understanding.
Thank you for Your patience in revealing more of Jesus to me. I will walk in
anticipation of the exciting things You will show me today. Thank You.
