Feb 7

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Timothy 2:1-2.

Paul’s prayer is one that we all might find reason to say. We can not pray too often for our leaders. These trying times reflect the spiritual warfare that is all around us. The war in Iraq is first a spiritual one. Our prayers for the President should ask that he be aware of the spiritual side of our conflicts, that military might alone can not solve our problems. There can be no true peace without the Lord Jesus touching and changing hearts. Yes, we long for a tranquil and quiet life. It is rare to see on this earth. But it is found in Christ Jesus. He alone is our life. If there is any godliness and dignity it will be because He is expressing it in us. My fleshly attempts will always fail.

Today, Lord Jesus, I pray for our leaders and those who surround them, so that they may look first to You for guidance and direction. Let them ask, “What would You do?” before making decisions or taking action. And I would do the same. You will provide the godliness we need, and the world will marvel at its origin because it will appear so unusual and attractive. Thank you! Amen.
