Day 17. He is our Life.
I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but
through Me (John 14:6).
The fear if the Lord is a fountain of life (Proverbs 14:27a).
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men (John 1:4).
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not
hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me
shall live even if he dies” (John 11:25).
When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with
Him in glory (Colossians 3:4).
Lord Jesus, I thank you for the gift of life. Somehow, beyond my total
understanding, You are my life. You have chosen to place Your spirit within me
to make me a new creation—a unique representation of You in all that I do. I can
only praise You, today and every day, for Your act of grace.
You have provided the bread of life that allows nourishment beyond what man
alone can offer. Your Word sustains me. It continually shows the way and the
truth of life. Somehow the Father looks at me and sees me clothed in You. When
You are revealed I shall be revealed with You. This is so humbling to me—it is
so far beyond what anyone could ever achieve or deserve.
Your life is a light for me. It presents to me all the attributes of God that
are mine by faith. It stands firm in the midst of temptations and it provides
the way to an intimate relationship with the Father. Your light reveals choices
for me, and encourages me to listen and to obey. Guide me, today, as I too
become a light unto the world through the indwelling Spirit within me. Show me
how to reach out with Your love to my neighbor, my friends, and even to my
enemies. I will seek the best for them, and I will do it with a servant’s heart.
That is the way the Christ-life will lead me.
Thank you Jesus. It is in Your name that I pray. Amen.
Day 18. He is our Creator
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible
and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things
have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him
all things hold together (Colossians 1:16,17).
“in these last days (He) has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of
all things, through whom also He made the world” (Hebrews 1:2).
“And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth, and
the heavens are the works of Thy hands” (Hebrews 1:10
“By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so
that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:3).
“yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we
exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist
through Him”
(1 Corinthians 8:6).
“All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being
that has come into being” (John 1:3).
How can it be, Jesus that You, the Creator, would live within me? I cannot
comprehend Your greatness, Your power, Your eternal existence, and hands that
hold all things together. We have no worth in comparison to You. Yet You loved
us so much that You gave Your life for us on the cross.
When You are for us, who can be against us? We only need to turn to You by
faith—You have established the depth and measure of all life. Today, I trust You
to show the way through difficult and trying circumstances, all the while
showing me that You are with me. I long to hear Your clear voice. I need to let
You judge all things that surround me so that I may listen, obey and have the
fruit of Your Spirit in all that I do.
Why does the world look in the wrong places for the true source of creation? We
have wasted so much energy on so-called intellectual pursuits that imagine that
we, lowly humans, could comprehend how the worlds were created. We were not
there when You spoke us into existence. We can only rejoice in the fact that we
will be with You when You call us to our meeting with You in eternity. Thank
You, Lord Jesus. In Your name we pray. Amen.
Day 19. He is our Light.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men (John 1:4).
There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man
(John 1:9).
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden (Matthew
5:14).
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works,
and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin (1
John 1:7).
Jesus, You are my light. Without You I am in darkness—the kind that the world
promotes and dwells upon. Thank You that I am allowed to present light to the
world. It is because of You that light exists, and You have been faithful to
share it with me.
Often I do not feel like a bearer of light. I am prone to dwell in selfish
interests; I am inclined to trust in myself. Yet there is always the light of
Your countenance before me.
If I would only turn my thoughts toward You I would see more clearly.
When the worlds were created You said “let there be light”. It is still true
today—let Your light be wherever I go. Show me the words and the deeds that are
to be done in the light. I will not require immediate results, and I will not
seek glory for myself. Your light will always seek to give honor and praise to
You alone.
Thank You that I can bring my sin into the light. There is healing and
fellowship there. We are renewed with our fellow man in Your light. I will never
try to explain this—I can only claim it and enjoy it by faith in You. In Your
precious name, Amen.
Day 20. He is our Rock.
The Rock! His work is perfect (Deuteronomy 32:4a).
And all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual
rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4).
Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock
(Isaiah 26:4).
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I
take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold (Psalm 18:2).
Let the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight,
O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:14).
Having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus
Himself being the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20).
Oh Lord, I seek a solid foundation in You. Yes, the rock of the wilderness,
struck by Moses, was actually Your Son, Jesus Christ. How can I comprehend this,
how can I analyze Your ways? You alone are the cornerstone and basis for all
life. Everything is measured with reference to You.
Today I ask that You show me Your standards, Your morals, and Your values as I
face the decisions that face me. You alone have the clear perspective on how I
can be used to serve Your purposes. You can deliver me through temptations and
my weaknesses. Your strength is always available to me by faith. You will give
me confidence because I always know that You are with me.
Thank You Jesus for being my Rock. Amen.
